Sometimes it may happen that we didn’t do anything wrong, but we still lose. This is exactly what happened in yesterday’s Cricket World Cup Final against England. Ladies you didn’t do anything wrong, just few mistakes you made was the cost of World Championship. You fought like warriors, until the very end. But sometimes experience is all you need in the big stage finals and that is where our young girls fell short. It’s sad we couldn’t win the world cup. Let’s say we won second place instead of saying we lost the world championship. This year’s Women’s World Cup gave us the glimpse of the shinning future of Women’s cricket. Let’s take a look back at our team’s performance and applaud them for their efforts and achievements. After all they have given us moments to cherish.
Smriti Mandhana was 1st star to emerge with 90 against England in 1st match and 106 against WI in 2nd match. Defending a low total of 169 runs against Pakistan proved that Indian bowlers are no less stronger than Indian batswomen. We thought Ekta Bisht’s 5 for 18 against Pakistan is best until Rajeshwari Gayakwad came with even better figures, 5-15 in her very 1st match against NZ. Mithali Raj’s experience came handy every time Indian needed stability. Jhulan Goswami did not fail to deliver at crucial moments either. Her 10-3-23-3 in the finals are 5th best in World Cup finals go all time. Veda hitting Kiwi bowlers for sixes and Punam Raut smashing centuries were soothing sights. Harmanpreet Kaur’s 171* against Aussies was one of the knocks that got tattooed in our memories. Apart from these, even others performed there parts well in their fields. But the name that really needs Special mention is Deepti Sharma. A small girl of just 19 had a brilliant World Cup. Even though it was her 1st World Cup, she performed fearlessly in all three departments. A hard hitter, great bowler and an awesome fielder. Such a young girl was given all the hard tasks in the final. Bowling the last over with all that pressure, fielding like an expert among the chaos of misfields to run out dangerous Brunt in moment of need and then finding herself standing alone when India needed just 10 runs to win. Till she was on the field even Captain had hopes of winning. It was Deepti’s wicket where that slightest chance was also gone forever. Deepti Sharma, take a bow for your attitude in whole tournament and the way you contained your nerves in the final.

The rising star, Deepti Sharma |
Right from the start of the tournament, our girls started playing brilliantly. Winning first four matches was something that grabbed even other teams’ attention. Then with the loses against South Africa and Australia, we found ourselves in the do or die battle against New Zealand. Winning this match, we found us against the hardest possible opponent, Australia. Defeating six times champions was boost in the confidence but somehow not enough to grab the title. As our Captain said we panicked in the moments where we should have maintained calm. After all the experienced players got out, our inexperienced youngsters could not manage to face experienced English side. we all saw your sad faces during the presentation, it broke our hearts. Win or loss is part of game. But this run by Indian Women and the amazing tournament is surly rise of Women’s Crickets all over the world. So, Congratulations to England for winning World Cup and Congratulations to all women who participated in world cup for winning over the world.
