BEAST UNDER BEAUTY'S SKIN

Having lost against Australia at league stage India needed a great performance to beat them in semis. Since the start of the World Cup on 24th June, she couldn’t score big. 60 against New Zealand remained her best in league stage. But Semifinal was entirely different matter. And this time she rose to the occasion and smashed 171 not out of just 115 balls. All the frustration of not performing to her abilities melted away with this big knock. Harmanpreet Kaur, truly, is the Beast Under Beauty’s Skin.
Even before match, Derby was referred as Indian’s ground. India won the toss and elected to bat first. After losing openers for cheap, everything seemed hard for for India, but yesterday was of India’s vice-captain. We lost Mandhana in first over itself and Punam Raut followed shortly afterwards. India was reduced to 35-2. And now it was the turn of  India’s destructive batswomen, Harmanpreet Kaur. After bringing some stability in innings with Mithali Raj, she started with what she is best know for, Power hitting. Even though Mithali Raj got out in 25th over, she didn’t fear anything and kept hitting. She completed her century in 90 balls after running a double.

But the century was no stop for Harmanpreet as she smashed more and more boundaries and crowd went mad cheering. While it was raining water in India, England was drenched in the rain of boundaries. All the efforts of Australian bowlers to stop her were drowned in this rain of runs. By the time she reached her 150, India was at 245-4 in 39.2overs. She used remaining 2.4 overs to score another 21 runs to reach 171not out. The inning was decorated by 20 fours and 7 monstrous sixes. With this brilliant knock Harmanpreet single handedly created a tougher task of 282 to win in 42 overs for Australia. This 171* is now 5th best score in ODI records. Although she couldn’t give her best in the starting, she performed to her potential at most crucial stage. This inning by Harmanpreet Kaur proved, yet again, that she is the player of BIG stage.
With the high score to defend and new found energy with Harmanpreet’s century, Indian bowlers did their magic. Australians tried their best to scale the mountain of runs but the efforts of Blackwell (90) and Villaini (75) went in vain. At the score of 245 all-out, 6 times World Champions were out of the championship. With this win India reached the final of world Cup for the 2nd time. India will face host England in the Final on Sunday at mecca of Cricket, Lords. England have lost only one match so far in the campaign and guess who beat them? yes, India. So, now with Harmanpreet back to herself and entire team performing great, maiden World Championship is not far away for India.

Well deserved Player of the match
