Saturday and Ladies Single’s final. The sheer old brilliance of Venus Williams was up against the Spanish youngster Gabrine Muguruza. When Williams reached this final she became the oldest female to reach the Wimbledon since 1994, at the age of 37. Venus Williams was in great form as she defeated the youngsters like, Ostapenko and Joanna Konta to reach the Finals. But in the Finals luck was in favour of Muguruza. The 2015 finalist won the match in straight sets with the score of 7-5, 6-0, to win her maiden Wimbledon crown. Learning from the mistakes of 2015 final and playing with confidence, the Spaniard became the new Wimbledon Champion. With this win she took her Grand Slam total to 2. The winner of 2016 french open became the 1st player to beat both William sisters in Grand Slam Finals. The 23 year old Muguruza played some of her best tennis to win the Championship. Now all she has to do is continuing her form to win more.
As for the Gentlemen’s Final, the History was created by the Roger Federer with record no. 8th Wimbledon title. This year’s final against Marin Cilic was the most one sided final with the score 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. It was in second set when the Croatian broke down due to hurting Blisters on his foot. From there on it was hard for him to stop Federer. With this thunderous form he could have beaten anyone in the world. The form continued for two weeks and Federer won the tournament without dropping a single set. With Wawrinka out in 1st round and when Djokovic, Murray, Nadal failed to reach Semis, the path was clear for Federer. Decision of skipping whole clay season proved right as he regained the Golden Trophy after 4 long years. At the age of 35 years and 342 days, Federer is now the oldest player to win Wimbledon. The Swiss champ now holds 19 Grand Slam tittles, winning both Australian and Wimbledon this year. The Maestro keeps turning clocks backwards.
