THE K1N9

First match point and a thundering ace. Game, Set, Match and Championship-Mr. Federer. Here we witnessed his reunion with his favourite trophy after the gap of 4 long years. The name R. Federer was engraved for the 8th time on the most honourable trophy in Tennis. With this title he has extended his tally of Grand Slams to 19, making it insurmountable task for newcomers. That’s why there should be no hesitation in admitting that, Roger Federer is THE KING of this era.
If someone would have predicted, after last year’s Wimbledon, that Federer will win Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2017, hardly anyone would have believed it. The thing that seemed almost impossible last year, is reality of this year. When Federer retuned this January, after 6 months away to restore his troubling knee, we got our vintage Federer back. His run so far can be described as nothing but some story from fantasy book series. Since his return he is constantly spinning the clock backwards and redefining the phrase ‘Age is just a number.’
After the Wimbledon of 2012, Federer failed to win a Grand Slam and the talks of he should retire picked up. But Maestro was training patiently till 2017 to come back. The blend of his hard work, sincerity and most importantly love for the game finally conveyed it's magic. And the result is in front of the world. He played 2 Grand Slams out of 3, so far this year, winning both. In Australia he played great game to beat his career long rival Rafael Nadal in the the Final. That was the time we saw the glimpse of his old form. After winning in Australia, he took a brave decision of skipping whole clay season rather than exerting himself on a surface that least suit him.
With fresh grass begun a fresh chapter. The Wimbledon is like a home for Swiss and he proved his skills when he won the tournament without even dropping a set. Playing some best Tennis of his life he outlived everyone to become an oldest player to win Wimbledon at the age of 35yrs and 342 days. This was also his 1111th win of his career. In the middle of the tournament he also hit the 10,000th ace of his career. This guy has produced such unreal numbers and still counting. So far in his tally of 19 Grand Slams he holds 10 on Hard Court (5 each in Australia and US), 8 in Wimbledon and 1 in Roland Garros. (As we all know Clay doesn’t care for Champions and has it’s own King.).The Champion is turning 36 on 8th of August, still he dreams to come back next year and chase titles even when is 40. He also believes he can perform well in New York and go for the win. Such is the spirit of our King.

Now soon the battle will rage (again) about who is Greatest Of All Time, Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer? But why fans fight when Rafa himself has no shame in admitting Federer is greater than him? And no Tennis fan can deny this. They say Federer is King in a weak era. But the how can someone refer this era as weak, when other two players won 15 and 12 Grand Slams in the same era as Federer? Still if people think Federer played in weak era then it is because no one is stronger than Federer. There are some things we never want to change, one such thing is watching Roger play. Keep playing Champ and keep extending the Golden Era of tennis. Long Live the KING.
