TIME TO STRIKE THE GOLD

Glasgow has set the stage for the war between the shuttlers from all over the world and the World Badminton Championship is in full swing. Indian shuttlers as usual are continuing to display the brilliance of their game. Unfortunately India’s favourite in Men’s singles was stopped in quarter finals by World No.1 yesterday and with this India’s hopes of medal in Men’s singles melted away. But we still have our two champions in Ladies’ Singles, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal. Both the girls have entered in semifinals last night and confirmed the Bronze but it’s high time for India to change the colour of our medals.
The Championship started in the year 1977 and since 2005 it became an annual event except for Olympic year. We are successful in securing at least 1 medal every in World Championship since 2012. After a series of bronzes, Saina Nehwal changed the colour to Silver in 2015 Jakarta games when she finished runner up against Spaniard Carolina Marin. This year we have huge chance to seal both gold and silver with PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal just a win away from Finals. In last few years world has seen the exceptional growth in Indian Badminton, thanks to Pullela Gopichand. Still, somehow we have always seen the India players to struggle at that final hurdle.
Today both girls will be playing their semi finals. In the 1st semifinal of the night, Saina Nehwal will be playing against 7th seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan. Japanese is in fantastic form because she entered the semifinals after beating the defending Champion Carolina Marin in the quarter finals yesterday. There is no doubt about how bigger challenge she will be presenting in front of Saina. But on the positive side Saina holds 2-0 win-loss record against her. In the 2nd semifinal of the night, PV Sindhu will be up against 9th seed Chinese Chen Yufel. Both players deuce at 1-1 against each other. In pre quarters, Chen surprised World No.1 Akane Yamaguchi, when she won the match in straight sets. So, we can expect 2 thrilling encounters tonight while cheering for our girls.
With the entry in semis both have confirmed medal, so India is having two medals to it’s name. The thing that matters is the colour of these medals. Both have it in their to beat the bests in the world. Let’s hope that they win the medals with most respected colours. Let’s hope both of them get past their own best. Let’s hope one of them strikes the Gold.
