Last few weeks were like dream run for India’s star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth. Badminton is game where playing three consecutive Super Series finals is considered to be legendary, and our young lad now stands with legends. After playing Finals in Singapore, Indonesia and Australia, he became only 5th man in the world to achieve this. And joined greats in game Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Lee Chong Wei, Chen Long and Lin (Super) Dan. But Srikanth did something even bigger than playing three consecutive finals, he won two of them back to back.
These two weeks in Indonesia and Australia can be described as nothing but flawless. The quality of Srikanth ’s game was top class throughout the two weeks. He even proved that beating world no.1 in Indonesia was not work of sheer luck, by beating him again 4 days later en route to final of Australian Open. In the semifinal stunned World No.4 Shi Yuqi as well. But still it was not enough for Indian. He faced the Olympic Gold Winner, Chen Long in the title clash. 0-5, was Srikanth’s win-loss against the Chinese before the final, but 6th meeting was holding different fate. 45 minutes, is all it took him to destroy Olympic Champion and win the title 22-20, 21-16. Even though playing styles of both players are similar, Chen was no match to Srikanth. Perfect serves, amazing returns and Powerful smashes of Srikanth, all worked in his favour. And he became 1st Indian to win Men’s Singles title.
